Herb’s “Red Shoes” traveled with him to Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania on a partial football scholarship, majoring in business management. Herbert, also affectionately known as “Herb,” “Herby” and the infamous “Red Shoes” or “Shoes,” was a 1985 graduate of Monessen High School, where he performed well academically, played the tuba in the band and excelled in sports, especially football and baseball. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Monessen, Pa., where he was a former member of the trustee board. He was the son of the late T.Sgt.Herbert H. 12, 1966, at Spangdahlem Air Force Base in Bitburg, Germany.
